Editing expectations
It's been years since I bought "walking" shoes from Rockport. They were remarkable for their out-of-the-box comfort, foot wrapping, firm support and ready to run flexibility, civilized styling and quality build. I stopped when the quality went downhill, i.e., to the lowest available unit labor cost. Recently I've been wearing MBTs, weird, but they do what they advertise and work well for me in mostly urban walking situations; high quality, lasted shoes. But not so good for the dirt paths and rocky trails I've started walking. So I looked for something else. Found these NBs. They serve the purpose: a solid foot bed, couldn't wobble if you tried. Uppers are bulky; straps are difficult to adjust for simultaneous hold and comfort; tongues have a life of their own; material is difficult to recognize as leather. Note that AMAZON just took another 30 dollars off their price. At that point the shoes are a slam dunk. Otherwise though, I'll wear them and adjust my expectations.

Great shoe if you have foot problems
I have a nerve problem in my feet which at times makes walking difficult or uncomfortable and some shoes that I have I can no longer wear. These shoes are one of the few that work for me and in fact I've purchased several pairs in different colors. The pair that uses web straps are especially comfortable as it is easy to secure the shoe but still leave it loose. The shoe is very supportive and I'm sure if someone is a serious walker they will find this shoe both supportive and comfortable. The only down side is that they are rather clunky looking and certainly not stylish, but for me just finding a shoe that I can wear is the most important and I really like these. As I said I've purchased several pairs (four I think) because this a model that New Balance no longer makes, so if you can find this shoe buy it.
Bullet Proof & wear like Iron
I own/have owned 6 different pair of New Balance shoes/boots.
They all wear like iron while being comfortable at the same time.
That's a hard combination to achieve at a modest price point!
This particular model shoe is ideally suited for any man that
does not have the full use of both arms & hands.
The "hooks & loops" arrangement allows one handed operation with
"relative" ease. I looked long and hard for any compatible shoes,
just for comparison, and found none. I highly recommend them.
